Care and Maintenance — Additional Care

Marble

Marble is a natural stone and factory machined. No two pieces will be alike, as there is an inherent variance in all marble. Veining is natural in marble and is not to be confused with cracking. It is recommended that a marble sealant be used to help resist the possibility of staining. If sealing is desired contact a professional. There are several marble poultice based powder mixes available to remove stains and many chemical preparations for marble treatment and polishing. We recommend a professional apply these products, if needed. Do not use cleaners that contain grit or abrasives, or any high alkaline composites. Ammonia can destroy the finish of your marble, as can lemon juice, cola and other acidic products.

Granite

Like marble, granite is a natural stone. It is less porous and denser than marble. A sealant is recommended to help minimize staining. If sealing is desired contact a professional. Use a mild soap, rinse and wipe dry. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleansers, as they will damage the surface of the granite.

Caulking

Caulking is considered homeowner maintenance and must be repaired or replaced as necessary to prevent damage. Time and weather will shrink caulking and reduce flexibility, so that is no longer provides a seal. This may allow water and debris to intrude behind the tile. As a matter of routine maintenance, it is wise to constantly maintain and make repairs as needed. Caulking compounds and dispenser guns are available at home improvement stores.

Ceramic

These products are relatively simple to care for. It is important to remember that they can chip, scratch or crack. Wipe glazed wall and counter tile periodically using a soft cloth or sponge dampened with non-abrasive household cleaner. Remember not to use ammonia, as it will discolor grout. *Please see Dal Tile Care and Maintenance on their website regarding ceramic tile

Clean unglazed wall and floor tiles in a similar manner using a solution of water and soapless detergent instead of an all-purpose cleaner. Do not use a dish detergent; it will leave a soapy residue and dull finish. You'll find many unglazed floor tile grow more beautiful with age by developing a soft shine, which keeps them looking better longer while reducing maintenance

Small bubbles or hairline cracks in the finish are common characteristics and will not affect the structural performance of the ceramic tile, nor are they considered defects. Caution: Chipping and cracking may occur if objects are dropped on or moved across the surface. Grit particles can scratch the surface as well.

It is normal for grout between the tiles to crack from time to time due to the natural expansion and contraction of the products used to construct your home
